Welcome to Fit & Fierce with MJ!

My name is Mariajose, but everyone just calls me MJ. I’m 25 and currently live in New Jersey after moving up north from Miami a little over a year ago.

I have been running for the last 4 years, on and off due to a change in goals as well as injuries that have kept me off the pavement. My previous blog, MJ Runs, was were I shared my journey with over 200 followers and I’m glad to say that not only did I meet some amazing people (which you’ll get a chance to hear from throughout the next couple of weeks), but I also encouraged a couple of people to either begin running, racing or making an attempt to change their lifestyle.

I decided to start from scratch again after coming back from an injury that took me out for 6 months. After doing a bit too much of heavy lifting, I acquired a lovely herniated disc in my lower back that made it extremely difficult to walk upright or even get up from bed some mornings. I also suffered from too many headaches, in part due to stress and in part due to a few medical issues I’m still dealing with, and these made it dangerous for me to lift anything in the event I blacked out, fainted or just released my lunch mid workout. After 2 continuous months of physical therapy sessions I am now feeling much better and I have slowly made my way back into a workout routine.

In the posts to come, I plan on sharing my experience in regard to dealing with the injury, my therapy sessions and my post-injury recovery. Four years of running also bring lots of advice in regard to posture, cross-training, injury prevention (trust me, you learn something every time) as well as suggestions on gear, shoes, run clubs and training. What I’m most excited about though is a series of posts that will allow you to meet one person per week, who will share their fitness journey with you. “Everyone Has a Story” gives you the opportunity to see different workouts, different approaches and different results. Oh, and don’t forget the recipes!

I hope that you will continue to follow Fit and Fierce with MJ and that it helps you or anyone you know that needs a little push or a new approach in the journey to either a healthier life, a more positive mind, a stress-reliever or a body that you feel proud of.
